Thanksgiving Season

Andy, my 7 year old, informed me this weekend that Thanksgiving ends on Sunday.  Why?  Because that is when Advent starts.  This year he is right, the first Sunday of Advent is on Thanksgiving weekend.  His logic is that Advent is a season, so why isn’t Thanksgiving?

Great question.

I usually think of Thanksgiving as a single day.  On that day, I spend time with family, and usually focus my thoughts  on the blessings in my life is.  The rest of the weekend usually turns into time away from work, a little extra relaxation time, and maybe an opportunity to get a few chores checked off of my to-do list.

This year, thanks to that question, I’ve spent a little more time thinking about the notion of Thanksgiving over this weekend.  It’s a wonderful way of putting my life in the perspective of a much bigger picture.

Now … what if Thanksgiving was more than just a season that lasted a long weekend?

What if Thanksgiving was a way of life?
